With their rich tradition of expertise in eyewear manufacturing, many brands from all over the world, are choosing these (often small) factories to guarantee quality in both manufacturing and added passion to the final product.

Here is a list of some of the most amazing independent eyewear brands that are made in France, which are not perse French themselves

Maison Nathalie Blanc

The Parisian luxury eyewear house Nathalie Blanc Paris, has positioned themselves as an “haute couture” brand mixing tradition with a modern approach. Made with artistry in one of the most prestigious French factories founded by Jean Lempereur in the 60s, the brand combines the finest materials, such as Mazzucchelli Italian acetate and 22k gold with high-quality design.

Gouveneur Audigier

An obvious name to add to our list of “Amazing Eyewear – Made in France” is the heritage eyewear brand Gouverneur Audigier.  Based in the heart of Jura, the French capital of eyewear, this region also carries a long watchmaking and gemstone tradition. Here, Clément Gourverneur established his factory in 1878 with a profound desire to apply this long tradition of luxury and precision handcraft to the eyewear industry.

Julbo

Next up in our “Amazing Eyewear – Made in France” tour, is the performance eyewear brand Julbo. French to its core, with its roots in the Jura mountains, their founder Jules Baud (pronounced as Julbo) created his first eyewear for cristal miners in 1888, paving the way for one of the most iconic mountaineering and alpine eyewear brands in the market.

Kirk and Kirk

Although it’s one of the most well-known British brands, the beautiful handmade frames from Kirk and Kirk are manufactured by skilled craftsmen in France, and therefore an obvious contender for our “Amazing Eyewear – Made in France” publications.

Lunettes ALF

ALF. No, not that extraterastrial wookiee from the 80s with an apatite for raw cats. Lunettes ALF is a new French eyewear brand which name stands for “Atelier de Lunetterie Français”, founded by the Bouchara brothers; Germain and Alexis. Together they had the idea to create a collection of discrete but elegant luxury glasses. Glasses which would highlight their  artisan know-how and technical skills. And so, Alf was born.
