American Optical has been trailblazing breakthrough technologies and shaping the world of eyewear fashion with some of the most iconic sunglass styles since 1833.
AO Eyewear was recently acquired by STATE Optical Co., a division of Europa Eyewear, who has been creating luxury acetate eyewear since 2014 and has long looked up to American Optical, the oldest optical company in America. As an eyewear brand dedicated to reinvigorating American eyewear craftsmanship and manufacturing, this opportunity creates the perfect marriage between a luxury acetate collection in STATE and a classic metal collection in American Optical Eyewear.
The American Optical 2020 launch began with three models, with more to come this year and next. Look at these beauties:
The Original Pilot: Available in three eye sizes with bayonet or standard temples, two lens colors, and three military-grade frame colors, including 23K gold.
The Saratoga: Available in one size, three lens colors and six frame colors.
The General: Available in two sizes (the larger being new), three lens colors and three military-grade frame colors, including 23K gold and a new option: rose gold.
Packaging: As a nod to the brand history, the original case design is being used.
The cleaning cloths are the models blueprints
The two companies were founded over 150 years apart, both born out of the dogged belief that American eyewear craftsmen can make the best eyewear in the world. STATE is thrilled to become a part of the storied history of AO Eyewear and is committed to looking after the brand’s heritage and reputation for quality, all while reinvigorating AO’s image to carry the brand through its next 100 years.
