You might remember the young label LEINZ Eyewear by winning the first Optibox Award, where they impressed the judges with the “unagitated courage”, the “quiet extravagance” and the “coherent market presence with a lot of personality and recognizability.
When creating her frame designs, founder Beate Leinz uses a finesse of construction that is waiting to be discovered. The front is demountable: the endpieces are fixed by the lens and front element. As a result, the temple colour and material reappear in the front.
The design is based on the contrast and playing with volume. Tension is created between the solid-appearing polyamide elements and the transparency and brilliance of the acetate. In the pure polyamide frames, this effect is achieved by the clash of two colours. This two-colour effect is particular for 3D printed frames.
“This year, I was excited to dive into the future world of color to develop new color combinations for my eyewear. It’s all about fine-tuning the colours. Our sun clips turn the already interesting glasses into real eye-catchers. The clip is simply clicked onto the glasses. Its material is made from the sustainable material of castor beans and, can be used as sunglasses or to spice up prescription glasses.”
Beate Leinz is constantly exploring the possibilities of 3D printing. Her collaboration with Parisian fashion designer Guillaume Larquemain prompted her to cover the matt surface of the glasses with a shiny, irregular pattern. A special feature that underlines the high quality of the models.

Beate Leinz attributes winning the Optibox Award 2022 to her 33 years of experience as a designer for Prada and Yohji Yamamoto, among others. She enjoys incorporating stimulus and visions into her creations.
“Besides the search for the perfect line when designing, I was also inspired by the play with materials and colours, with heaviness and lightness. I wanted to use the advantages of 3D and was looking for a way to show off the star qualities of this material. The 3D printing process enables us to produce according to the order situation and allows us to use resources responsibly”.
About Leinz Eyewear
Developing the brand LEINZ with its unusually courageous design approach builds on a wealth of experience. Following on from both a watchmaking and goldsmithing apprenticeship, founder and designer Beate Leinz completed a university degree in design and art. This led to a yearlong collaborations as a designer for various international eyewear brands.

Beate’s most successful models and collections were created in the fashion house Prada and Miu Miu in Milan. From 2013, she developed a distinct and formative design for the then newly launched brand Yohji Yamamoto Eyewear, which quickly achieved considerable attention.
Due to designing eyewear being her passion, Beate has repeatedly set industry trends by creating ground-breaking visions.
“As a passionate eyewear designer, I was keen to create a completely new aesthetic. I also wanted to produce my distinctive style under an independent label. Then I came across the subject of „contrasts and hybrids“. What could be better than combining the old with the new? And the familiar with the future?
And so I consistently applied this concept across all aspects of materiality, form and manufacture. For two years I worked on the collection’s concept and after various technical hurdles and modifications I am extremely thrilled to present my collection LEINZ Contemporary Eyewear Berlin”.
