UNSUIKYO SCION collection
Winner Japan Eyewear Award 2026 Grand Prix
There is something quietly radical about eyewear that asks you to slow down. In an industry obsessed with speed, trends, and instant impact, UNSUIKYO’s latest collection moves in the opposite direction.
SCION is inspired by Jomonsugi, the ancient cedar that has stood for more than a thousand years in the mist-covered forests of Yakushima, enduring not by force, but by patience.
That philosophy recently earned SCION the Japan Eyewear Award 2026 – Grand Prix, a recognition that feels entirely in tune with the collection’s restrained confidence.
When Nature Sets the Tempo
UNSUIKYO has never treated nature as a visual shortcut. With SCION, the brand translates the spirit of cedar into form, texture, and experience. The collection reflects the idea that strength does not need to announce itself. It exists quietly, carried through material choices, subtle detailing, and thoughtful engineering.
Crafted in Japan, each frame is designed as a moment of stillness in daily life. SCION does not aim to dominate the face. Instead, it grounds the wearer, offering balance through proportion, weight, and tactile calm.
A Dialogue Between Cedar and Craft
The defining feature of SCION lies in its metal textures, carefully developed to echo the rugged, layered surface of cedar bark. These textures are not decorative flourishes. They are deliberate, meant to be felt as much as seen.
Paired with this is a refined decorative pin, inspired by metal elements once worn on samurai ceremonial attire. Historically, these details symbolised inner discipline and quiet resolve. In SCION, they reappear as understated markers of composure, placed with intention rather than spectacle.
Adding to the experience is UNSUIKYO’s newly developed three-stage adjustable temple tip system, allowing for precise personal fit while preserving the collection’s calm, natural aesthetic. Comfort here is not an afterthought, it is part of the philosophy.

Five Designs, One Enduring Spirit
Each SCION model interprets the cedar’s presence in a different way, without breaking the overall harmony of the collection.
Japanese craftsmanship eyewear
Model M1: grounded authority

M1 takes cues from the cedar trunk itself. A confident rectangular shape combined with textured temples creates a grounded, stable presence that feels quietly authoritative.
Model M2: quiet balance

M2 introduces softer movement. Rounded rims and a wood-grain inspired metal bridge reflect the branching limbs of the cedar. The M2_RS colourway, praised for its balance and refinement, was awarded the Japan Eyewear Award 2026 – Grand Prix, setting it apart as the emotional core of the collection.
Model M3: effortless calm

M3 focuses on lightness and ease. With a subtle panto influence and finely etched temples, it reflects the gentle motion of wind through cedar leaves, making it an effortless everyday companion.
Model M4: rooted strength

M4 offers a wider fit, drawing inspiration from the anchoring strength of cedar roots. Its structure feels secure and composed, with engraved details adding depth without excess.
Model M5: translucent stillness

M5 takes a different path. Crafted from transparent, biodegradable material, it captures the clarity of winter light filtering through cedar branches. Snowflake-like textures soften the frame, reminding the wearer that nature can be present in spirit, even without literal materials.
The Quiet Power of Endurance
SCION does not chase attention. It earns it slowly. By translating the enduring presence of Jomonsugi into modern eyewear, UNSUIKYO offers something rare in today’s optical landscape, a collection that values time, restraint, and inner strength.
In a world that moves fast, SCION stands still, and invites the wearer to do the same.
