MINUS Eyewear // Eyewear for powerful eyes

What do you do when you have a patient with a high prescription coming to see you? You may also think even with thinner lenses they will probably still stick out a mile from the side of the frame. It isn’t ideal, not just because of the vanity factor of it looking unsightly, but will the heavy lens affect the fit of the frames?

Admittedly, I don’t have a particularly high prescription with my worst eye being -4.50. However, I have two good friends that are over -11 and I think we can all agree that their lenses will be quite thick. These friends are forever telling me there is a real struggle to find frames that can take such a high prescription, and I can truly believe that too. Especially with one of my friends needing Asian fit as well. From an already a very narrow pool of glasses to choose from due to the lens thickness, she also has to contend with Asian-fit. The struggle to find frames is real!

Then I came across a brand spanking new brand MINUS, who is going to tackle this problem head-on. The founder Charlotte Dickinson has struggled to find frames from a young age because she is in the high prescription club. From her own experience, she thought, enough was enough and decided to do something about it. With zero background in eyewear design, she teamed up with an eyewear designer Charlie Ingham to bring MINUS to life.

From talking to my two friends that are high prescription club members, they both said they are always left with the most unstylish, unflattering frames to choose from so if you have clients that are also part of the club then MINUS is worth a look. They are stylish looking frames with an affordable price tag that guarantee they are able to hold high prescription lenses.

MINUS has currently got a small range for their launch collection and Charlotte is still doing her full-time job to fund this project because she is so passionate about it. MINUS has also got a crowdfunding page to help fund future collections. I like supporting start-up brands that interest me and I hope MINUS will also interest the TEF optical community as they look to solve a real problem.
