Silhouette // Runway show Polimoda graduation

In honoring the 25-year journey of Titan Minimal Art (TMA) by Silhouette, six designers from the Polimoda Fashion School were invited to reinterpret an iconic model. They were challenged to innovate while ensuring a perfect blend with their respective collections.

The project mandate highlighted the pivotal role of the glasses’ weight. A unique requirement was to create a rimless model, completely devoid of hinges or screws. The outcome? A pioneering, distinctive piece of eyewear that truly stands apart.

Student Ian Morris Mcdonald’s collection drew inspiration from cycling, the Tour de France and the positioning of the body of the rider.

His outerwear is a reaction to this positioning while the inner layers are inspired by the vintage cycling uniforms of the 1940s.

Naturally, his glasses mirror these references with their streamlined shape and curved form.

Gabriela Blake embraced the challenge of designing within the limits of a minimalist and frameless model.

She wanted to design a fun and colorful pair of glasses that fits in with her overall collection.

Her fashion design graduate collection plays with movement and color and her glasses are similarly innovative, featuring a fake frame around the lenses and a unique head strap instead of regular temples.

Luca Polonio started from the classic aviator shape, incorporating the main inspiration of his collection, the Gothic church.

He applied the arch shape of Gothic church ceilings to the glasses by inserting glossy and opaque sections on the lenses.

The alliance between Polimoda and Silhouette empowers students to utilize their creativity in designing a significant accessory. By following Silhouette’s precise boundaries of minimalist design principles and technical limits, they strike a balance between novelty and functionality. This venture underscores the significance of industry collaborations in fashion learning, providing a valuable stage to tackle genuine career hurdles and standards.

“With this collaboration, we are merging Silhouette’s iconic minimalism with cutting-edge creativity. Together, we are inspiring the next generation of designers to push boundaries, paving the way for a visionary revolution in eyewear”, explains Michael Schmied, a member of the founding family and current CMO.
