Neubau // Sustainable homage to an endless summer

Jennifer is wearing model “Romy”, a new special edition from the “Côte du Soleil” collection by neubau eyewear, which is a homage to an endless summer on the French Riviera in the 60s. This year’s collection by the Austrian label is celebrating the mood of an era and the nature of South of France with a premiere: all three models are made from the new, innovative material natural3D, a 100% bio-based material, printed with 3D-technology.

A journey to the French Riviera of the 1960s

The French Riviera of the 60s inspires nostalgia and a sentimental longing among an entire generation. During that time, the South of France was evolving as a hotspot for ground-breaking developments in art, design and film and is still regarded as a place that combines languid allure with an indefinable feeling of freedom to this day. Characterised by its new aesthetic, the Côte d’Azur provided a kind of sanctuary for icons like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, who heralded the dawning of a new era with their art. It was this bold, free, nonchalant scenery that Jacques Deray chose as the ideal backdrop for his cult film “La Piscine”, which perfectly captured the mood of an era. Taking that as its inspiration, neubau eyewear is conveying the endless feeling of summer of those days with the “Côte du Soleil” collection.

The special edition evokes exactly what defined the heyday of the French Riviera – the feeling of freedom, the rediscovery of grit and tenacity and the constant connection to nature. “Côte du Soleil” recalls long-forgotten, romantic memories of balmy summer days in the South of France and, with the use of natural materials and state-of-the-art technology, is translating its unique aesthetic into three sunglasses models.

The pool as the central design symbol

With its latest special edition, neubau eyewear is focusing on the development of a unique and visual form of expression inspired by the 60s. The Austrian eyewear label, which expertly combines design and sustainability, is drawing unmistakable parallels with the visual imagery of Jacques Deray and not only taking inspiration from his key characters, but also from the symbol of the film – the swimming pool. The three “Côte du Soleil” styles can be described as modern classics with vintage flair. Like the edge of the pool framing the glittering water, the frames surround the lenses of the three models ROMY, ALAIN and MAURICE, which each come in two colour variations. The collection, consisting of one women’s (ROMY), one men’s (ALAIN) and one unisex model (MAURICE), not only celebrates the characters of the protagonists they are named after, but also the rustic, beautiful landscapes of the Côte d’Azur.

Sustainable vintage design from the 3D printer

Inspired by the visionary character and omnipresent affinity to nature of this era, neubau eyewear’s latest special edition celebrates the return to completely natural materials. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art 3D technology and the specially developed material – natural3D – the sustainable label is presenting “Côte du Soleil” as its first completely bio-based eyewear collection. Paired with an environmentally friendly production method and trendsetting design, the material, which is extracted from the seeds of the castor oil plant, plays the leading role in the special edition.

All three models not only stand out with their sustainable production but also with their unique flexibility, lightness and long-lasting colour intensity. A malleable titanium needle, which has been integrated into the temples of the eyewear models, ensures the wearing comfort that neubau eyewear is renowned for. This way, “Côte du Soleil” is a collection where the feeling of an era, and also nature, set the framework.

All three special edition models are available in two different colours, at a price of 329 euros. Côte du Soleil is part of neubau eyewear’s high-end segment.
