Opti Munchen – 2019 summer update

The TEF Entourage will start 2019 at the upcoming Opti, where many of us will participate in already the 3rd edition of their Blogger Spectacle! For the first time, the trade show will be held in all six C halls (C1 – C6) at Fairground Munich. In January, opticians, optometrists, contact lens specialists, buyers, and other members of the optical industry will already be able to get everything they need for the coming business year. The additional space opens up new opportunities for exhibitors to present their products as well as for opti to expand its range.

The Entrance North-East is an additional option for visitors

The configuration of the halls and the new path in the trade show will be important for guests – in January 2019, the new Entrance North-East will be open up in addition to the already-familiar Entrance North and North-West. From there, visitors can immediately enter halls C6 and C5, where the theme areas lenses, contact lenses, diagnostics, refraction, raw materials suppliers, machines, IT, and procurement syndicates will be located in 2019.

The frames area, located as usual in halls C1, C2, and C3, can be reached via Entrance North-West. Car parking is available near Entrance North-East as well as Entrance North-West. Visitors traveling with the underground can get off at the stations “Messestadt West” and – now – “Messestadt Ost” to reach Entrance North-West and Entrance North-East, respectively. In the middle, between hall C3 and hall C4, Entrance North is welcoming visitors. The complimentary airport shuttle busses stop here. Additional shuttle busses connect all three opti entrances and both metro stations to one another.

Knowledge transfer and the first opti scholarship recipient

The knowledge transfer area will be further expanded in 2019, in part by the opti forum in hall C4. On all three days, it will offer discussion panels and presentations from international optical experts. The majority of the speakers and presentations, which will all be presented with simultaneous translation into German or English, have already been decided. Visitors can expect to gain a host of useful knowledge, for example about the potential of digitalization, additional opportunities with contact lenses, up-selling and cross-selling, as well as search engine optimization for opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists. On Sunday, Andrea-Maria Schmied, a graduate of the optometry and audiology training center Optometrie & Hörakustik Initiative in Vienna, will be the first opti scholarship recipient to participate in the opti forum. She is presenting her master project thesis “Low Vision. Visual impairment and electronic and ergonomic aids”.

Similar to the FUTURE SHOP at opti 2018, which gave visitors an insight into the technical side of the optical specialty shops of the future, 2019 will also feature something special. “We are planning a showroom in hall C4 on the topic of the customer journey”, says opti Project Manager Bettina Reiter. Hall C4 will also be the center for stationary optical businesses, including shop fittings and design; workshop outfitting and setup; care, cleaning, and merchandising products; as well as cabinets and displays. Distribution companies, industry suppliers, the international pavilions, and the international universities will also be found there.

FKM-verified final statistics from opti 2018

The final statistics from opti 2018 have now been officially checked and verified by the Society for Voluntary Control of Trade Fair and Exhibition Statistics (Freiwilligen Kontrolle von Messe- und Ausstellungszahlen): 28,444 visitors obtained information about innovations from 667 exhibitors from 40 different countries in an area covering 45,500 square meters. “For years, GHM has had the data they gather checked and verified by independent third parties”, explains Dieter Dohr, CEO of GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH, the organiser of the opti trade show. “opti wants to offer exhibitors and visitors reliable data in comparison to other trade shows in this industry, both domestically and internationally.” To ensure this, FKM makes use of strict, consistent regulations for their verifications. For example, only visitors with tickets are counted as trade show visitors. Booth personnel, journalists, service personnel, and event organizer and venue operations personnel are not included in the tally.
