It started with a simple question: What if you could fold your sunglasses flat and carry them everywhere? For Max Greenberg, a Weston High School graduate and industrial designer, that idea turned into an obsession—and eventually into ROAV, the world’s thinnest folding eyewear.
After studying product design at the University of Rochester and completing a master’s in industrial design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, Max pursued the one concept that never left his mind:
creating a pair of sunglasses that could disappear into your pocket.
Traditional screw hinges made this impossible. So he engineered his own solution—a patented micro-hinge system that folds frames completely flat to just 8mm thick. Crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo quickly proved there was a market. By 2017, with over $200,000 raised and a reliable manufacturing partner in China, ROAV Foldable Eyewear was born.
