The 2026 edition will run under the theme “Vision for Quality of Life”, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to exploring how advances in eye care, optometry, and optics directly influence daily living and long-term health outcomes. With Riga also hosting the Rimi Riga Marathon during the same weekend, early travel and accommodation arrangements are advised.
“It is my great pleasure to invite you to the EAOO Riga 2026 Conference, an international gathering dedicated to advancing the field of optometry and optics across Europe.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our wonderful hosts, the Association of Latvian Optometrists and Opticians (LOOA), for their invaluable support and tireless efforts in organizing this event.
Amidst the stimulating discussions and enriching sessions, I encourage you to take a moment to explore the beautiful city of Riga. For those who enjoy running, you are welcome to participate in the Riga Marathon or cheer on colleagues taking part in the event. This conference is a unique chance for us to collaborate, exchange ideas, and drive innovation in optometry and optics across Europe.”
Riga as Host City
Riga, the capital of Latvia, will serve as both cultural backdrop and logistical hub for the event. Its growing reputation as a conference destination combines historic architecture with modern infrastructure, and the University’s Academic Center offers a purpose-built environment for scientific exchange.
The EAOO 2026 Conference is expected to attract a diverse audience of practitioners, researchers, and educators from across Europe and beyond, continuing the Academy’s role in shaping professional standards and advancing the science of vision care.
“I am delighted to welcome you to the 17th Annual European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) Conference, co-organized by the EAOO and the Association of Latvian Optometrists and Opticians (LOOA). This landmark event will take place in Riga, the heart of Latvia – a city where history meets innovation, and timeless charm blends with modern progress.
“Riga is the ideal place to gather global leaders, practitioners, educators, and researchers in optometry and optics. Join us for a forward-focused program filled with rich learning, interdisciplinary exchange, and meaningful connections. Immerse yourself in powerful dialogue about the vital role we play as primary eye care specialists and consultants in enhancing well-being.
In parallel, we are proud to host the Spring Meeting of the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) – Europe’s leading organization representing the interests of optometrists and opticians. Through ECOO, professionals collaborate to strengthen our professional field and shape its future in Europe.”
Scientific Programme and Abstract Submissions
Abstract submission for the scientific programme is already open, with a deadline of 30 September 2025. Researchers, clinicians, and academics will contribute to a programme designed to highlight innovation, clinical practice, and interdisciplinary approaches in optometry and optics.
Poster sessions will again play a central role. The EAOO Best Poster Award will recognize the strongest contribution presented at the conference. Eligibility is limited to delegates with accepted abstracts, and presentations must be delivered in person during the event.
Support for Students and Early Career Researchers
The conference will also feature the Karen Sparrow Award, which provides a €1,000 grant to the best abstract submitted by a student or early career researcher. Candidates must be EAOO members and have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD thesis within the past 12 months. Submissions are processed via the official EAOO platform under the dedicated student and early career category.
This initiative underscores EAOO’s commitment to fostering the next generation of professionals in the field by encouraging new research and supporting academic development.
Save the date and be part of a transformative experience at EAOO 2026 in Riga – where vision care meets quality of life.
