From Dalí’s Sculptures to the Face

Salvador Dalí’s surrealist universe has moved through painting, sculpture, jewellery and design for decades.

Now, that unmistakable visual language is being translated into eyewear with the launch of Marcel + Dalí, a limited-edition collection created by art curator Marcel Katz in collaboration with the Salvador Dalí estate.

Katz, founder of The Art Plug, approaches the project from the world of contemporary art rather than conventional eyewear design. The result is a collection conceived less as a seasonal fashion statement and more as a series of wearable objects, each drawing inspiration from the sculptural work and extraordinary imagination of one of the 20th century’s most recognisable artists.

“Marcel + Dalí is more than just a collaboration; it’s a celebration of Salvador Dalí’s timeless artistic vision brought to life in the form of luxury eyewear.”

From Sculpture to Eyewear

At the centre of Marcel + Dalí is the idea of translating Dalí’s three-dimensional artistic language into something that can be worn.

Rather than simply placing familiar artwork or branding onto conventional frames, the collection takes inspiration from the forms, details and visual codes found throughout Dalí’s sculptures. Those references are reinterpreted through the architecture of the eyewear itself, allowing each frame to function as both an accessory and a miniature sculptural object.

It is an approach that feels particularly appropriate for Dalí, whose work continuously challenged the boundaries between fine art, objects and everyday life.

Precious Materials for Wearable Art

The artistic ambition is supported by equally elevated production. Each piece is crafted using precious metals and premium materials, reinforcing the idea that Marcel + Dalí is intended to sit somewhere between luxury eyewear and collectible design.

Details, finishes and construction are treated as part of the artistic expression rather than simply functional necessities, creating frames designed to retain the visual impact of the original inspiration while remaining wearable.

Produced only in limited quantities, the collection also embraces the exclusivity traditionally associated with collectible art. For buyers, each frame becomes more than an interpretation of Dalí’s work; it becomes part of a deliberately restricted edition.

Art That Gives Something Back

The collaboration also extends beyond design.

A portion of proceeds from Marcel + Dalí will support a nonprofit organisation dedicated to helping children discover and develop their creative talents through the arts, adding a philanthropic dimension to the collection.

“This project is a testament to the enduring legacy of Salvador Dalí and the power of art to inspire and give back. We’re proud to merge the worlds of art and fashion while contributing to the next generation of artists.”

For a collection rooted so strongly in artistic legacy, that connection with future creativity feels particularly fitting.

When Eyewear Becomes a Collectible

Marcel + Dalí enters a growing space where independent eyewear, jewellery, sculpture and collectible design increasingly overlap.

Here, the frame is no longer treated purely as an optical product. It becomes a canvas for another creative discipline, carrying elements of Dalí’s surrealist world into an entirely different scale and context.

With its combination of limited production, precious materials and direct collaboration with the Salvador Dalí estate, Marcel + Dalí positions itself firmly within that territory.

Not simply eyewear inspired by art, but an attempt to make the artwork itself wearable.

About Maison Marcel

MARCEL is an independent design house founded by artist, curator and creative director Marcel Katz, whose work moves between contemporary art, collectible design and cultural storytelling. Based between Miami and the South of France, Katz first became known through The Art Plug and his early work with Salvador Dalí bronzes, an experience that shaped his appreciation for sculpture, craftsmanship, editions and the emotional power of objects.

MARCEL sculptural red and gold eyewear handcrafted in Italy

Founded in 2021, MARCEL approaches eyewear as wearable sculpture rather than conventional fashion.

Each collection is designed between Miami and the South of France, developed with specialist artisans in Modena, and handcrafted in Italy.

Production remains intentionally limited, with each piece conceived around form, balance, material experimentation and collectibility rather than mass-market trends.

Eyewear is only the first chapter of MARCEL. The long-term vision extends into furniture, sculpture, lighting, home objects, publishing and environmental works, creating a wider design universe connected by one philosophy: objects should have purpose, provoke curiosity and become meaningful parts of everyday life. For Katz, the ambition is not simply to create beautiful products, but to make objects that encourage people to look at the world differently.
