Myopia Management Takes Center Stage at EA00 2026 in Riga

The conversation around myopia management continues to evolve at remarkable speed. As evidence grows and clinical tools become increasingly sophisticated, eye care professionals are looking not only for innovation but also for real-world proof that new approaches deliver meaningful outcomes for patients.

Fresh from presenting its highly discussed 12-month randomized controlled trial findings for MiYOSMART iQ at ARVO 2026, HOYA Vision Care arrived at the 17th Annual European Academy of Optometry and Optics Conference in Riga with a clear message: scientific evidence remains the foundation of better patient care.

Over three days, the company contributed seven scientific papers, four posters, an educational lecture, and a hands-on workshop, covering subjects ranging from myopia management and blue light research to personalized solutions for presbyopia.

Building Confidence in Myopia Management

Much of the attention centered around the growing body of evidence supporting myopia management. Earlier this year, HOYA Vision Care revealed 12-month findings from its MiYOSMART iQ clinical trial, showing that nine out of ten children experienced no clinically relevant myopia progression during their first year of lens wear.

At EAOO 2026, that scientific momentum continued through multiple presentations examining emerging treatment strategies, combination therapies, and long-term outcomes. Researchers explored topics including atropine and spectacle lens combination treatments, choroidal remodeling in myopia management, and new developments in DIMS lens technology.

The broad range of presentations reflected an industry increasingly focused on slowing childhood myopia progression before it develops into a larger long-term eye health concern.

Real-World Evidence Takes the Stage

While clinical trials remain essential, real-world patient outcomes often provide the strongest connection between science and daily practice.

That philosophy sits at the heart of the MiYOSMART Case Study Contest, an initiative designed to showcase how eye care professionals are applying myopia management strategies in real clinical environments.

Participants from 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa submitted challenging patient cases involving MiYOSMART spectacle lenses. Three finalists advanced to the live judging stage, representing the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, and France.

The 2026 EMEA title ultimately went to Marion Wolff, Head of Orthoptics and Ophthalmology at Kirchberg Ophthalmology in Greater Strasbourg. Her winning presentation followed a young patient over a five-year period during the critical 8-to-12-year age window, a period widely recognized as particularly important in childhood myopia development.

Accepting the award, Wolff emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared learning within the profession:

“Thank you to HOYA Vision Care for your commitment to innovation in support of both patients and professionals. This case study contest truly shows the value of connecting science with real-world clinical experience, and the richness of peer-to-peer exchange – yesterday’s discussions and questions were a powerful reminder of how much we learn from each other to better serve children.”

Personalisation Extends Beyond Myopia

HOYA’s presence at EAOO was not limited to childhood vision care.

The company also used the conference to introduce delegates to Hoyalux iD MySense, its most personalized progressive addition lens platform to date. During a hands-on workshop, eye care professionals were able to experience the company’s visuSense measurement system, designed to assess what HOYA describes as an individual’s Visual Sensory Intelligence.

The concept aims to go beyond traditional measurements by considering how different people perceive and respond to visual information in daily life. Factors such as gaze behavior, posture, and clarity preferences are incorporated into the fitting process to create a more individualized visual experience.

Adding scientific context to the workshop, Professor Fabrizio Zeri presented research examining adaptation outcomes among both successful and previously unsuccessful progressive lens wearers.

A Conference Focused on Evidence

Beyond its own initiatives, HOYA supported a diverse scientific program featuring respected researchers from across Europe. Topics ranged from pediatric myopia management and binocular vision anomalies to digital eye strain and reading performance among different age groups.

Among the highlights was a lecture by Professor Bruce Evans, who shared practical advice for optometric researchers looking to strengthen the evidence base that underpins modern clinical practice.

Taken together, the presentations reflected a broader trend visible throughout EAOO 2026: the profession’s increasing commitment to combining rigorous scientific research with practical clinical application.

For HOYA Vision Care, the conference served as an opportunity to demonstrate that innovation is not only about launching new technologies. It is equally about generating the evidence, education, and professional collaboration needed to ensure those innovations create meaningful benefits for patients.

As myopia management continues to become a central focus for eye care professionals worldwide, the growing body of research presented in Riga suggests that the next chapter of evidence-based vision care is already well underway.
