Dzmitry Samal’s tribute to Paris Olympics
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris has truly ignited a spark in the athletic and optical industries. The opening ceremony was a testament to this, with this years’“Olympic Torch Bearer” Snoop Dogg wearing sunglasses adorned with Olympic rings, and athlete J’Ay Wilson sporting Ralph Lauren Olympic attire, rocking the same olympic sunnies, adding a unique twist to their ensemble.
The Parisian tradeshow SILMO didn’t miss the opportunity either; they’re marking the Olympics and Paralympics by revealing a range of sports frames and forging partnerships between athletes and opticians.
Many marketplaces are filled with Olympic-inspired sunglasses, embellished with the national flags of each participating country, and Parisian eyewear brand WOOW even unveiled an entirely line, fully inspired by this sporting event.

In a genuine nod to their Parisian roots, Dzmitry and Henri from the French label Dzmitry Samal, have brilliantly crafted a unique pair of eyewear known as LEONARD.
Inspired by the global sporting event hosted in their own city, they’ve designed these frames with the five olympic colors embedded in transparent acetate, creating an authentic piece of wearable art.
The silhouette of these frames is far from ordinary. It’s a creative concoction of two irregular shapes, resulting in a structurally graphic, striking look. Crafted with precision and dedication, each LEONARD frame is a testament to French craftsmanship, combining cutting-edge technology with traditional handmade techniques.

These frames come equipped with sun-lenses offering 100% UV protection, but can also accommodate prescription lenses if needed. It’s a true representation of functionality meeting artistry.
About Samal Design
SAMAL DESIGN was created out of an experimental project in Spring 2012. The success of our virtual 3D-spectacle with a pixelated frame named 5DPI convinced us to take a step forward. A cement watch, a first in the watchmaking industry soon followed…
The inspiration of our collections is multiple – from art déco to urban constructivism and 80s videogames with a modern twist. Dzmitry comes from Belarus and studied in Italy before settling down in Paris. He used to design cars, and has an approach that combines technology and pure design. His partner-in-design Henri has worked for “Maisons de Couture”.

Both Dzmitry and Henri wanted to be totally independent, responsible for the development of their products from the first drawing to their final distribution.
They have work with French ateliers that have a real know-how, are open to all their requests, and react instantly to their modifications. The result is a genuine artful product, unlike any other.
