New sunglasses, new passion! Continuing their cultural and artistic journey, our friends at Face a Face explore a unique group, namely its Japanese designers, gradually leading the Frech brand towards contemporary Japanese design.
This new aesthetic permeates the imagery of the JAPAN NOW collection. From the draped generosity of KIMONO to the sanded aesthetic of the NOTCHI notch, via the recasting of marquetry work in the playful ZAÏKU… Every one of these tells the story of this journey.
Dare to be creative! Go where they reinvent and recite poetry. Make the unexpected happen.
KIMONO
Dare yourself in the beguiling curves of KIMONO!
Ever seen the kimono reinvented as glasses? You have now. The exaggerated width of the temple thus evokes the wide sleeves of the kimono, the rounded bevel of the frame highlights the volume of the textile drape.
NOTCHI
Cultivate mystery and elegance with NOTCHI.
NOTCHI means “notch” in Japanese, hence there is a notch carved between frame and temple in these wide, blindfold-type glasses, like an opening through which we try to perceive the eyes.
ZAÏKU
Be elegant and surprising: choose ZAÏKU.
This Japanese term refers to extremely specific marquetry craftsmanship – the straw work that inspires these precise, intense sunglasses.
KAKEMO
KAKEMO. For a mysterious and inspired look.
A nod to the vertical pattern of the Japanese kakemono, KAKEMO glasses display an enigmatic contrast – between chunky curves and geometric elegance.
SHIRO
Make everyday life a work of art with SHIRO.
This model is a tribute to the steel mesh armchair by designer Shiro Kuramata, How High the Moon. The armchair is paradoxical, both solid and lightweight, just like these sunglasses with a dual aspect shape: transparent parts come to life and make light of the solid shapes.
About Face a Face Paris
Launched in 1995, FACE A FACE is a contemporary eyewear brand founded in France by Pascal Jaulent, Nadine Roth and Alyson Magee. After joining the DESIGN EYEWEAR GROUP in 2015, FACE A FACE moved its headquarters to Denmark. Today, FACE A FACE has offices around the world – from Aarhus to Paris and San Francisco. FACE A FACE is an audacious, non-conformist eyewear brand.
It was born from Parisian artistic culture almost 30 years ago and has been evolving with it ever since. The collections draw inspiration from modern art, architecture, contemporary design and fashion trends.
“FACE A FACE is more than just a brand. It’s a reflection of the best the world has to offer. Each frame is a handcrafted work of art. There is luxury in every detail. And each new collection is evolution by cultural selection. It’s about audacity and aesthetic frontiers. It’s style and attitude.
