TEFtalkBOLD // Poplar Shade

At Bold Optical Fair, we had quite a long talk with Ian from Poplar Shade, a passionate artisan eyewear maker who has created both a commercial line of beautiful frames that benefit the environment and people in Guatemala, as well as “top-of-the-line” bespoke frames that are truly handcrafted and truly gorgeous!

About Poplar Shade

Each pair of their glasses are created from a slab of bio acetate or real buffalo horn that is carefully crafted by artisans with decades of experience. The preliminary processing of the acetate requires, between the dozens of steps, at least a week of work for each frame.

To guarantee our environmental commitment, each frame is numbered and punched by hand, so as to guarantee the uniqueness of each model and a limited and responsible production. Each new production involves the updating and revision of the design: in this way, the old productions maintain their uniqueness and characteristics over time, obviously without affecting dimensions and the possibility of repair.

Glasses made to measure

Ian believes that the greatest expression of eyewear is tailor-made creation, since each face is unique and deserves specific care and treatment.

Each custom-made eyewear is worked by the same craftsman in buffalo horn and customized in sizes, colors, finishes, and shapes. He truly creates the equivalent of a tailored suit for your face.
