Silmo d’Or // Winners of the 29th edition

Last Saturday, we were present at the 29th edition of the Silmo d’Or awards, the annual and exceptional event by Silmo Paris that celebrates the talent and creativity of our entire industry. Divided into twelve different categories, here are the designs that we and our colleagues from the International Press have selected as the lucky winners for this year:

Category – 1st price

Imagined as face ornaments, Karma frames’ by Parasite Design structure dress and highlight the look of their «wearers».

Combined with jewels, it becomes a unique piece, halfway between eyewear and face jewelry. The frame can be combined with different size and ele¬ment styles : necklace, ear¬rings, pendants, bracelets & face ornaments.

The multitude of combinations creates unique ornaments, in line with the emerging trend of face jewelry. Karma takes part in a futuristic approach to luxury and jewelry.

Category – Special Jury

As part of this year’s Special Edition “Transition”, Neabau’s models Xenon and Neon present themselves with futuristic design, mirrored lenses, and a high-contrast color scheme.

Yet it’s not just its appearance that makes these sunglasses futuristic. They are also crafted using ultramodern sustainable technologies. Each pair is 3D-printed using the brand’s own 100% plant-based material, natural3D.

The finishing touch is a linear titanium element, a fascinating detail that adds a colorful spark.

Category – Designer RX

Made in France, Kirk & Kirk collection is the only collection in the world to be hand-made in acrylic.

A lamination of two complimentary colours, despite it’s thickness and presence, this beautiful frame is so light that it weighs almost nothing and is a delight to wear.

This model, Thor, brings a vintage touch from the ’80s but in a hyper-modern style.

Category – Designer Sun

The Kintsugi design by Masahiro Maruyama features irregular lines of repaired Japanese Kintsugi pottery, whose method makes broken pottery beautifully reborn, is portrayed in the design.

Lines made by Kintsugi bring new space to the frames. Kintsugi also expresses the spirits of Wabi Sabi, its external beauty of Wabi Sabi, and the spirits of finding beauty.

The front line passing like lightning gives an elegant and bold impression at the same time.

Category – RX Fashion

The VPP081 from Philipp Plein by De Rigo is a bold-feature style made with an exclusive acetate with marble effect.

It is an iconic element of the brand – in 3 color options.

It features a geometrical-shaped faceted front and a large temple with metal gold effect finishing.

Category – Fashion Sun

Dive into the dreamlike world of Christian Lacroix with this women’s sunglasses frame.

A real patchwork of shapes and colours, this sunglasses frame offers an original design with an oversized acetate front and thin, wavy stainless steel temples signed Lacroix.

The traditional acetate frame is unique and offers a subtle mix of geometric and floral patterns for a colourful, feminine and elegant look.

Category – Children

Odette Lunettes presents Cadet 1, the first model of a 3D printing collection dedicated to children aged eight to twelve.

Cadet 1 is an optical frame with a solar clip that interlocks like a construction game, to make wearing glasses funnier.

Working in 3D allows Odette Lunettes to go beyond the limits of traditional eyewear techniques while using a material perfectly suited to children due to its strength, flexibility, and great ecological qualities.

Category – Sport

The Bot sunglasses by OUT OF are able to adapt their tint according to the surrounding light in less than 1 second, without using batteries, covering any tint between 17% and 42% of transmission.

The lens is made of a solar cell that powers a chip and a special LC film. The chip constantly works to adapt the LC’s tint, based on the light conditions. With their technology they are able to use only the energy that derives from the sun, achieving a lens that’s perfectly uniform and with no distortions.

Category – Vision

Category – Technical Connection Innovation

The SKUGGA’s miniaturized smart module can be embedded in any fashion eyewear frame, giving potential for all eyewear brands to become smart. 

It is an integrated platform based on a patented module allowing communication and data exchange (position, temperature, humidity, VOC components, uva/uvb exposure, call notification/alarms etc) between glasses and smartphone/cloud with total integrity of personal data (privacy).
