   TRENDS

SS2022

Spring is upon us, and we are excited to see what is trendy at the upcoming shows! Naturally, we try to look ahead at TEFmagazine, so it’s always exciting to see which brands will be on-trend, trending, or even trend-setting.

While most shows have been postponed to a later period this year, I am even more curious to see what is hot, and what is not, in the world of independent eyewear design. Here is a short overview of the upcoming trends we feel will have a strong impact on Spring/Summer 2022. Let’s see if you can spot them yourself at a show near you!

All in Black

Eyewear trends come and go, so don’t worry if you’re struggling to keep up with the latest styles or if fashion isn’t really your forte.

Ultimately, you can never go wrong with classic black glasses. Whether you’re hoping to pass for a pop icon or if you’re perfectly content to blend in with the crowd, black frames are the way to go.

Edgy Aviators

Gone are the days when the Aviator was just for a police officer, the FBI or Tom Cruise!, The 2022 models will be more than a thin wire frame with teardrop-shaped lenses. Modern designs in combinations of metal and plastic make the trend, and go well with a sports-inspired outfit.

Oversized

Cat-Eyes

The bigger the better for all fashion choices, including frames. With a glamorous cat-eye in an oversized silhouette, these trendy sunglasses are another party favourite but in a more pronounced and angular look, with striking embellishments and styles. The shape is also slightly more angular and it is intended to give your self-confidence a boost.

Thin Metals

Where thick and bold frames look attractive, frames with a minimal thin metal rim have their own fan base. Go for timeless shapes to look more stylish in your metal glasses or choose a multi-shaped silhouette to give your glasses a modern touch. For a more professional approach, opt for round glasses in gold metal, although any shape in a lightweight metal option will be admired this year.

Transparents

The bigger the better for all fashion choices, including frames. With a glamorous cat-eye in an oversized silhouette, these trendy sunglasses are another party favourite but in a The eyewear trend for “invisible” frames has been gaining speed as a fashionable alternative for years. Frames in clear acetate and soft pastels are very trendy right now. These new neutrals are inspired by a luscious palette of soft pigments.

Square Metals

Square glasses are in abundance this season and it is expected that this will still be the case in SS22, but in a slightly more vintage version.

So if you want to look nerdy, go for a square metal in a simple colour like black, blue or brown. If you’re looking for a more stylish and relaxed look, choose this frame with a thin metal front.

Sporty Style

Sporty sunglasses are hot and probably the most notable micro-trend I’ve seen in the past year. All of our favourite designers have found different ways to make us look like our favourite football player or race car driver with a mix of athleisure and streetwear attitude. Cut-out shapes, iridescent gradients and polarized lens finishing complete this look.

Retro Style

In times of crisis and uncertainty, man returns to what he knows and feels familiar with. That also applies to fashion, and we will see many well-known shapes for the upcoming eyewear season, but with a retro twist, in terms of design language, material and colour use.

Shapes evolve every season, and this season plays with the shape of frames with a retro twist, to keep them a little more minimalist overall.

Chains

Glasses chains have officially received the high-fashion quality mark. For a while, the trend was exclusive to your grandma and college students (a weird combo). This season, retro style is getting the chic revival it deserves, and eyewear chains have officially moved from strictly functional to fully fashionable.
Made in silver or gold and finished with jewels and gemstones, this accessory can completely brighten up your look.
