The collaboration between the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Essilor has given rise to a three-year partnership with the aim of promoting road safety. The goal is to make the public aware of the fundamental importance of good vision for road safety. According to recent figures 3.500 lives are lost in traffic crashes every day, 46% of people who lose their lives on the roads worldwide are pedestrians, cyclists and drivers or passengers of motorcycles and 10 to 12% of road crashes are reported to be related to vision problems. Road safety therefore starts with good vision, and sight is the most important of the five senses when making decisions at the wheel.
FIA promotes the 12 Golden Rules for daily road users’ behavior. These tips aim to improve road safety. They remind people, regardless of the means of transport, that they are not alone on the road and that they must think of passengers and all other road users. Also, Essilor® Sun Solution™, the Essilor Group division dedicated to sun plano lenses, is taking part in this project with an awareness campaign to promote the use of sunglasses with lenses that can adequately manage blinding glare to enhance visual comfort and safety.
