On Monday 2nd September I was invited along to the William Morris London x William Morris Gallery collaboration launch. So, what was it all about? I bet you are all thinking William Morris and… another William Morris? Let me explain. William Morris London is a British eyewear brand founded in 1996 and William Morris Gallery houses artefacts from the famous artist, designer, writer and socialist from way back in 1834.
Are you following me? I know it a little confusing because they share the same name. However, it makes sense why this collaboration came about. William Morris London, their eyewear designs have always oozed a touch of class and Britishness about them, they are elegant and smart. William Morris the artist, designed some very iconic prints that is still very popular now. Copies of his prints are still available to buy because his designs are that iconic.
So what did I think of the eyewear? On first impression, they looked beautiful, that was the first word that came to mind when I saw the collection. Every piece is very elegant and the prints of William Morris are included on the temples. All the cases and cloths also have the iconic prints on them. The entire collection of eyewear are a metal/acetate combination. The acetate gives each frame an identity and on some of the styles, the layering of acetate also gives the frame a whole new dimension and a different depth of colour too.
All in all, I really liked them, just because they were so beautiful and they felt like an art piece, as well as a pair of glasses. I think they have definitely kept the British heritage feel to the collection since both William Morris’ are British.
During Silmo 2019 (so only a few weeks away), they will be launching the collection to the industry. What I saw on Monday was an exclusive preview and no details of pricing were released but you will be able to find out all the information you need during Silmo 2019.
