Painting The Town Red in Feb31st Eyewear

I know I won’t be alone when I say that time away on holiday seems to pass twice as quickly as it does at home. So it is with a rather blue feeling that I’m writing this. I can’t believe the nine-day holiday in Calpe with Ian is over and that we’ve been home for a week already. It was perfect. Our first proper holiday alone. Neither us had been to Calpe before. We chose the hotel because of its excellent reputation for food, its location on the beachfront and its views of the famous Calpe rock. It surpassed our hopes and expectations. I’ll write more about the resort itself in due course but for now, here’s one of the charming features of Calpe Old Town.  The iconic yellow and red painted steps in Calpe form a gateway between the seafront and the old town. When we climbed them during the day, they were deserted. By contrast, in the evening, they were full of life. And thankfully, the locals sitting outside their properties seemed unconcerned by the number of tourists, ourselves included of course, taking photographs.

My red vintage-inspired ponte midi dress is from Boden. (At the time of writing it is still available in several colours and most sizes in the clearance section). It’s my favourite shade of red, a colour that is vibrant and uplifting. I love the tie detail at the back.

These raffia spot sandals are also from the Boden clearance. I couldn’t resist the raffia, the tassels and the scalloped edge. They make the perfect holiday shoe.

The Perfect Pair

What is the perfect eyewear for my red vintage-style midi dress? A cat eye style to compliment the 1940-50s shape.  These are the Shaula by Feb31st. The frame is made from sustainable wood, which ties in very nicely with the natural raffia of my shoes. The graduated blue lenses compliment the navy on my shoes, while the raffia compliments the little basket I bought in Nerja.

If you look at the photograph above, you can see that the yellow and red painted steps have a half-tiled wall to the left. The wall continues to full height around the corner. It’s a beautiful example of the intricate tiling that covers so many walls throughout the whole of Spain.
